The
recurrent themes of the Jubilee Year linger
on at De La Salle Hall. Jubilee, a time
of celebration and a time for reflection.
The enriched freedom of aging graces our
elder Brothers at De La Salle Hall - they
have so much more to look back upon, to
reflect upon, than the rest of us. Their
faces bear witness to the essence of a salient
celebration. The furrows and creases that
crinkle in a smile; the eyes that twinkle
in surprise, or subtle wit, all bespeak
the "act of performing a rite of festivity,"
as Webster would define celebration.
These men have celebrated with a lifetime
of service, of loving service. They are
the better for it, and we, the gifted, are
blessed to have them in our midst.
Lives
that have been full of ritual have taken
the Brothers from one threshold to the next.
Dedicated endurance of difficult situations
and a healthy sense of joy have attuned
them to the power of revitalization. This
revitalization comes from growing young
through the accumulation of wisdom. They
have heard the undercurrents of the years,
have laughed at life's little ironies, and
have come out the other end, luminous with
the knowledge-of-the-heart.
The
Brothers' journeys vividly recall the words
of their founder: "Since it is God's
work that you are doing, do it with enthusiasm.
Show as much creativity and inventiveness
as you can, never losing sight of the fact
you are ministers of Jesus Christ."
(John Baptist de La Salle).

The
nurturing health care professionals at De
La Salle Hall are strong in number and measureless
in spirit. The Brothers-in-residence who
have spent their lives serving are now the
ones to be served - only they can adequately
pay tribute to the excellence of the caring
staff. Cumulatively, this staff forms a
dynamo of dedicated energy which places
De La Salle Hall on the cutting edge of
efficiency.
Although their individual duties differ,
an esprit de corps exists. The evident camaraderie,
the quick smiles, and fast quips from the
elder Brothers, all define the shared healing
process. The dedication of the staff speaks
eloquently through their proficient service
and enhances the atmosphere at De La Salle
Hall on a yearlong basis.
However,
Christmas is special. At this time of customary
giving, the patient and enduring service
of our health care staff is touted by all
the environs of De La Salle Hall and beyond.
They are a tremendous gift to us.
The
real peace and joy of this season is extended
to the members of our health care staff:
